My lollipop garden (2007/8)

On a visit to Cape Town Trudi acquired an unusual Smooth-Cast™ plastic imported from the USA. Before leaving Windhoek she had produced ceramic sculptures from clay which simulated garden succulents. When she returned she decided to make moulds from these existing objects, into which she poured many different shades of the Smooth-Cast plastic. This was followed by an associated series of linoleum prints on these plants.

“The print Hawarthia Lolly which is based on a succulent endemic to Southern Africa by the name of Haworthia is of particular interest. This cut and etched lino print has sharp edges contrasting with subtle painterly printing of the etched areas. Like a plant which is ostensibly static but abounds in chemical energy this image is a vibrant entrapment of resonant energy with small cubes seeming to explode away from it into a field of swirling forces. She found the production of this work very challenging.”
