Triangle workshop at Dumbo, Brooklyn, New York (2002)
For some 20 years the Triangle workshops took place at different venues in New York. Characterised by the Twin Towers, the Triangle company was based on the 91st floor of the World Trade Centre. These endeavours were unfortunately put to an end by the September 2001 tragedy. The 2002 workshop in which Trudi participated took place at DUMBO, an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass in the populous post-industrial borough of Brooklyn on the eastern side of New York.
Trudi describes the warehouse as a charming private setting situated next to a bridge next to the East River. She took mostly light knitting along to use in the workshop. Huge square knitted pieces had been made for her and she soaked these in the East River before taking them back to the large space she had chosen among the other installation artists. Of these she greatly admired Andy Yoder, who lived and worked in Brooklyn and Mario Navarro from Chile. Also present was the highly talented artist from South Africa, John Murray.
Trudi’s concept from the outset was to float an object on the East River.
